Manchester Central secures leading health and safety accreditation
Manchester Central is the first major UK conference and events venue to achieve the British standard for occupational health and safety management, OHSAS 18001.
The achievement positions Manchester Central as the first major UK conference and events venue to operate four internationally recognised management systems; bolstering its reputation as an industry leader and demonstrating its commitment to adopting best practice.
Manchester Central's integration of OHSAS 18001 processes has been designed to complement the venue's existing ISO management systems; strengthening the venue's overall performance and ensuring the consistent delivery of a safe and quality service.
Manchester Central has introduced a number of initiatives alongside the accreditation; including easy-to-digest guidance and inductions detailing how the venue works with organisers to ensure events meet CDM regulations.
Tim Filmer, MD of Select Services said: “It was a refreshing experience to work with Manchester Central where a proactive, supportive and joined-up approach ensured our events met CDM criteria with minimum fuss. Health and safety is often viewed negatively, with many people considering CDM enforcement unworkable; however, at Manchester Central we delivered events that worked within CDM parameters thanks to the flexible, can-do attitude of a forward thinking team finding solutions in challenging situations.â€'
Angie Robinson, Chief Executive of Manchester Central said: “We are delighted to add a fourth internationally recognised accreditation to our list of achievements. Health and safety is a top priority at Manchester Central and gaining OHSAS 18001 perfectly demonstrates this. Achieving the certification guarantees a safe business environment for the venue's visitors, organisers and exhibitors and ensures the best possible working conditions for our employees.â€'
Manchester Central was first awarded the international standard for sustainable event management (ISO 20121) in 2013. The venue went on to achieve the international standard for environmental management (ISO 14001) and quality management (ISO 9001) in 2015.
